Flower of the Day: Marigolds!


  • Common Name: Marigold

  • Botanical Name: Tagetes Erecta

  • What they look like:



  • Colors it comes in: Different colors, but most commonly in yellow and orange.


  • Season available: Part of April through part of October.


  • Where it is grown: Anywhere

  • Type of flower form: Mass/Focal


  • How it is sold: 10 stems


  • Retail price: $2.00 (Not really sold. More of a garden flower)


  • Vase life: 4-6 days

  • Special care: They have a pungent odor that attracts insects. They are also bothered by slugs. Tall American Marigolds need stalking to protect them from strong winds and rain.


  • Meaning: Cruelty; Jealousy; Grief; Inquietude; Affection

  • Interesting fact: Marigolds are an extremely affective herb for skin treatment. It can be used for any inflammation of the skin, wherever there is damage. As an ointment, Marigolds can be excellent at repairing minor damage such as broken cappilaries or sunburn.
